I've been fortunate to serve in corporate, government and non-profit settings from the C-suite and boardrooms to state capitols and Capitol Hill. Like the time two former board members asked how we might quickly turn the the gigabit-fiber backbone of a smart-grid installation in Chattanooga into a magnet for young startup companies. In a few months we secured $350,000, attracted teams and students from around the globe and booked judges from XPrize Foundation, Alcatel-Lucent, Warner Brothers, IBM, Cisco, IDEO, Mozilla, Paladin Capital Group, Imlay Investments and others. More importantly, the event was a milestone in the path of the community to redefine its future.
